Nestled in the rolling Derbyshire hills, Sycamore Farm Barns in Ashleyhay, offer fantastic accommodation with a warm and friendly welcome with access to some of the best outdoor activities on offer. Whether you are into walking, cycling, pubs, horse riding, swimming, theme parks, history, exploring, or just pottering around lovely country villages and market towns, then we can point you in the right direction. Or you are welcome to just hang out in the cottages and relax!

Around Ashleyhay

You can walk straight out of the door at Sycamore Farm Barns. Alport Heights, with its stunning views of the south Peaks and north Midlands is a gentle 10 minute walk away.

Just down the road you can explore Shining Cliff Woods, part owned by the National Trust, including site of special scientific interest and offers fantastic walking, picnic sites and idyllic woodland scenery.

We’ve Carsington Reservoir within easy reach for all your water sports, the High Peak Trail which is great for family bike rides.

The Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site is 5 minutes away, where you can discover Sir Richard Arkwright’s water powered mills which kick started the Industrial Revolution, as well as many other historic mills. Nearby is Matlock Bath, with the best fish and chips in the area, lovely promenades and plenty to do in all weathers: Gullivers Kingdom and the Heights of Abraham…

The historic market town of Wirksworth, with a great selection of pubs and places to eat, as well as an amazing annual arts festival is only a mile away from the Barns.

Bars and Resturants

No short break should be without a good pub and we’re blessed with one of the best, almost on our doorstep. Wander across the fields to The Bear at Alderwasley, a 16thC inn with open fires, a great range of beers (including Thornbridge Jaipur) and some of the best pub food you’ll find in Derbyshire.

In Wirksworth you’ll find Le Mistral, a French bistro and even a Sicililan Pizza restuarant, whilst Belper (4 miles only) boasts its own Italian, Thai, Indian and Chinese restaurants.
